I tend to agree with Aegis... For me waking hour is nice but misses something that could have made it huge.

I think that it's because it is a song so oriented to Anneke's voice, and it lets the musicianship in a minor role, I mean, I think this song it's empty someway. The final part (from minute 4 to the end) is quite boring, not that original, and reminds me the structure of Travel, but in this case the trippy atmosphere does not appear. But, despite of these facts, I think that Waking hours is one of the best (or maybe THE best) song sang by Anneke, specially the chorus :)

A tough choice for sure, but as of now, A Noise Severe is my personal favorite.

I think it being one of the few new songs that I've seen live sealed the deal. It was just such an incredibly beautiful song to hear live.....nearly brought a tear to my eye.

Honorable mentions to Alone, Box, Home, Forgotten Reprise and Waking Hour also.

I think so far, only The Quiet One & Solace are the 2 songs that I don't enjoy a great deal. Perhaps they will grow on me more in due time.

Waking Hour is brilliant! However I love the whole CD. I really like Solace but would prefer a version without the voices....

wow, that's true, it would be interesting to hear a "no voices" Solace version... however, in my opinion is really cool the "dialogue" between those voices and Anneke's vocals.
i guess a clean version would be only interesting, but never better than the original Solace, really creative for me...

in my opinion, Waking Hour is the easiest song to listen to... so accessible... i'm not surprised with the results.

The melodies are wonderful (the key point of this great song) but as Aegis said, it's too much vocals orientated... i agree with that ... there's nothing left really interesting in this song for me.

Personally i love all the songs at the same level... with subtlety, they all sound different and marvellous... the reason why i still and always listen to the whole LP.

A Noise Severe for Me!

However, The Quiet One deserves some votes as well. The keyboards in it are 'very' Richard Tandy.
I bet that Frank Boeijen has ELO's Out Of The Blue in his cd collection.

Yes, "The Quiet One" definitely deserves some votes. I'm surprised it's the only one with 0% right now.

I'm very impressed by 'In Between'; just as powerful as 'Zion' was but a bit more elegant & subtle. Very nice work. 'Alone' is a great surprise (wasn't impressed by the DVD version), and 'Your troubles...' is nice.

However, my vote goes to 'A noise severe', one of their best ever.
Don't you think it wouldn't be out of place in Nighttime Birds?
Anyway, I felt there was a bit of a step back, overall, in terms of mood.
I was hoping for more keyboards, in the vein of the Monsters remixes, and I sometimes have the impression I'm listening to something they composed ten years ago. In fact, I would not even go mad at shopkeepers for putting the album in the metal section.

Not a bad album, don't get me wrong (although there are a few weak moments, especially at the end),
but not as daring and new as I thought it would be.
I think Souvenirs is better by some margin, and I'm not talking about htmap, of course...

sick

I agree. A nice song, but it is a bit boring. Maybe I'll grow to it, but now I don't like it too much.

I voted for the title track, since it is so touching and it gives me the chills in a good way. But I like many of the tracks: In between, Solace, Your troubles are over, A noice severe....

I agree to with Solace, I really like this song!! Kinda millitary-march beat that really mix well with Anneke's voice
