Well, not really a poll but I think this is the place to post it...

Hello everyone,

nice topic, huh? No, there's no Best-Of-CD planned (as far as i know... 8) ) but since there's none available (yet) from The Gathering, I decided to make my own. It's not really for me, it's more like a giveaway to friends in order to introduce them to TG and hopefully make them listen to the regular albums too! And the first impression is usually the most important, right?

So here's the tracklist, I tried to include a great variety of different styles and moods (Note: At the time of compiling the CD, Home had not been released.):

1. Rollercoaster
2. Great Ocean Road
3. On Most Surfaces
4. Nighttime birds
5. Eléanor
6. In motion #1
7. In motion #2 (Sleepy buldings)
8. Marooned
9. Amity
10. Herbal movement
11. You learn about it
12. Saturnine (Sleepy buildings)
13. Travel

What do you think?
A good compilation to get people hooked up on TG? Should I get in contact with Psychonaut for a release  ?
Do you have your own Best-Of-CD (Only limitation: 80 Minutes, it should fit on a CD - no mp3-Playlists) and want to post it here?

Best regards
Dominik

I'd say HTMAP as a compilation for those of the unknown.

To introduce someone to the Gathering, I loan them my Souvenirs, HTMAP and Mandylion CDs. It gives a better idea than random songs here and there where you miss the general atmosphere of the album.

yeah, this is what i do too, but after my friends got already listened to the compilations i make for them (as they prefer "Best of" and don't have time to listen to each whole album)

with a compilation, i let them choose their fave atmosphere and lend them the album related to the songs they mostly appreciated in my best(s) of.

i thought it was the best solution to introduce the music.

the atmosphere is surely important ... but from my own experience, i mays say that what Music is for you does not necessarily represent the same for other people. Sometimes your listening, attention, passion may be really different.

I recently made such a CD.
It wasn't easy because while making my first tracklisting, I had so many songs that I needed 3 full CDs.
So, after further reviewing the tracklisting I managed to narrow my selection to 2 CDs, and here it is (still i miss a lot of songs :( ):

CD1
Your troubles are over
Bad movie scene
Shortest day
Waking hour
Monsters
In motion #1
Herval movement
Saturnine
Third chance
Even the spirits are afraid
Debris
On most surfaces
Broken glass

CD2
Confusion
Illuminating
Great ocean road
In motion #2 (sleepy buildings)
Home
Probably built in the fifties
Travel
Sand & mercury
Black light district

Ι can't think for which song should the first, or the second, in this cd, but I think a compilation must have these songs:

Strange Machines
Eleanor
Sand and Mercury
In Motion II (both Mandylion and SB editions!!! :green: :green: )

Amity

The Mirror Waters (Always version)

Black Light District

and all the others...
