sorry. the hub is down "for good". With a file sharing hub such as this, it needs a certain level of participation to keep it healthy. I ended up being the only person on and now and then someone would enter, download from me, then leave. The purpose was to have them stay and share what they have also, so that everyone benefits.

The format of a file sharing hub will not work here. I'm again considering a server based system (like FTP or KDX) that doesn't depend on the participation of anyone by myself.

Sad to hear this... Anyway, it was good though that you made it to get the videos you wanted from me. Thanks also for your stuff and patience.

All the best for future plans!

Why don't you try to get a permission by TG and put your stuff on http://www.archive.org ?

Other bands such as GYBE!, A Silver Mt. Zion, Mogwai and Dredg already gave their permissions to make recordings of their live shows available to the public.

(For some bands there's a policy on not publishing previously unreleased songs. This policy might also be true for TG stuff.)

I agree with Markus. In fact, dredg just recently gave the OK to have their music put up there; the guys on the dredg forum I post on wrote an email to drew, and he gave it the ok. All you have to do is contact archive.org about it, and have one of the band members send a letter or email giving it the ok. I'm sure one of the members wouldnt mind writing a quick note/email. If this happens, archive.org allows the uploading of lossless and non-lossless formats; I myself have a large number of Gathering shows in mp3 format, and a few in flac.

Anywho, good idea. Someone that knows enough about archive.org and could contact the band should try to get this going.

Well, whoever goes about setting it all up with archive.org should just PM Hans and have him give the OK about uploading their bootlegs. I'll see what memento does.

you can also share your (lossless) TG boots @ http://www.dimeadozen.org
it's a great bittorrent tracker for lossless audio & DVD video bootlegs.

In my opinion the big advantages of archive.org are:

* archive.org provides a functional infrastructure (Nobody needs to run the hub.)
* Most concerts are provided in lossless format.
* You don't need to use P2P applications. A simple browser / ftp client is enough.
* Everybody who accepts their policy is allowed to download.
* The band remains in control of the content which is provided. They can place restrictions. (Just remember the CM issues about unreleased tracks.) Moreover, the band can revoke their permission in case that some people infringe their policy.

Has anybody contacted the band yet about this subject? I know they're in the studio and it might take some time to reach them...

After looking into archive.org and watching the trading board here, I have a new plan. :green:

The hub will not be resurrected.

It looks like web based trading or torrents are taking hold, so I will switch to one of those.

I will re-encode my videos from the source in, most likely, mpeg-4 H.264 as that will give the best quality to file size ratio, but it will take my aging computer a while to encode. I might share as an ISO DVD image instead, like the chile concert (GREAT job on that one).

Seeing that some of my previous efforts continue to be distributed (like Anneke playing the recorder and Anneke playing my electricity acoustic solo), I'll watermark them, but in such a way that if someone wants to burn them as a DVD, they can remove it.
