Hey I didn't dis cover it before...
Just to tell you stg about Mexico
what I know (a nice legend, I like legends...) is that it's in connection with old Aztec capital Tenochtitlan. An Aztec legend sais it was a god (Quetzalcoatl) who leaded the Aztec Indians to find the place where they should build their temples and cities. He said the sign of the right place will be where they see an eagle sitting on a cactus, killing and eating a snake. They walked around the old territory of Mexico and they saw this sign by the Texcoco lake. There was the snake, the eagle...everyithing was right.
And on that very place, after draining the moors there, was built one of the biggest cities of the old America: Tenochtitlan. (I guess it's the very place of our days' Mexico City)
That's the story. I love such ones
Hey
Im not an expert, but i really like all the history and legends of my country.
The one who was leading the aztec, was a "priest" called Tenoch, thats the reason of the name of the city (Titlan means place)
Quetzalcoatl is refered in some other meso american cultures (mayas and teotihuacan cultures mostly). He was supposed to be a god-man that came from the sea with high knowldege (Some ppl says he was european, becos of his bread and blond hair)
By the way, aztecs used to call themselfs Mexicas (The reason of the name of our country).
Ahh, and Tenochtitlan (Now Mexico city) was not only the biggest city in america, used to be the biggest in the world (Same as today
)
