I think the band should stop getting involved with metal festivals and events...really I think that this is getting them more around these kind of beliefs...

I think that if they tour with bands like Portishead or Massive Attack there would have much more acceptance to their music....unfortunately they have to face the "heavy" bands with the female godesses = they sell flesh and beauty instead of voice!

Nightwish is as if Stratovarius were playing with Tarja...they have nothing to do with this scene - except their excellent debut! That's my opinion...

Ooooookay... well, after those last bits of wisdom from the guys, I think it's fair to say that this conversation really can't go much further... I mean, at one point it's mentioned that Tarja Turunen has a better voice than Anneke Van Giersbergen... so go figure... :P

It's obvious you guys have formed your opinions based not on what TG's music currently is, but rather what it is not: metal. And that's a pretty pathetic way to form opinions, I'm sorry to say.

In any case, if you just stop listening to their latest material, you'll be much happier, methinks!

Hey hoang, no offense man, but when I read this I couldn't help but remember the French knights in "Monty Python's and the Holy Grail", where they insult Arthur and his knights saying stuff like, "you sons of a silly person!" :P :P :P

Like I said, no offense, I just wanted to make a joke :P

As for hangyord, don't feel sorry and don't apologize. If somebody is going to behave like an @ss, thinking that the anonymity of the Internet is the only thing that gives him that right, then he deserves all the backlash he gets, be he 13 or 43 or whatever.

If the only thing that stops people from acting like civilised beings with each other, is merely the fact that the other people know who they are, our species has a serious problem.

I think we should close this topic now. There is nothing more to say. It was an interesting topic at the beginning, but then it got an personal and negative taste. Any last words?

My words then:

I really understand the fact that someone is surprised with the different sound of the gathering through the years. But, well, changing the band's name or not, it's their own business. It's sad watching people fighting about it.

A question to Hans could have solved this matter. He could answer why the name is still the same.

But it seems nobody thought of this. I repeat: it's the band's matter not the fans'.

We just have our opinions, why would one be more correct than the rest?

Well, that's wht I think!

Cheers! :D

It's funny to me that so many of you say "I think the band should..." and so on. Are you the manager? Do you hae any bearing on what the band does, realistically? No? Quiet, then.

As far as closing the topic... people have a right to discuss; I for one don't appreciate censorship.

haha! it is obvious that you were going to defend your mate, who is member since 2002, but, read carefully who started the fight... ;)
Not only that, i was aggressed by some users since the beginning of this topic... so, you see :)

i don't care, really, i wanted to discuss this strange evolution of the band, now i know that most of you love TG as it is nowadays and it's ok, different music taste, just that.

And I leave this forum, because it's not interesting FOR ME, but with no remorse, except 2 or 3 users.. ;)

And i'm not 13 years old...

farewell my friends... 8)

If you are leaving this forum just because of an insignificant discussion, you are truly an idiot (sorry about this personal offense, but you deserve it! 8) )

About your sentence "... most of you love TG as it is nowadays...": of course we do, but that doesn't mean absence of criticism. As I stated before, I do prefer Always... and Mandylion to Souvenirs and Home, but unlike you, I understand and appreciate these two records, because they're made with excepcional music.

The cool about a band such as TG is this: true headbangers (like me!!!   ) and modern rock/jazzy/trip-hop lovers can converge in appreciating TG's sound. Why? Because TG is made of this: different elements which are blended to create an original music. To me, TG still keeps some metal influences, although not as much as 10 years ago. But that is a problem? Not really, IMO. True and beautiful music has no genre, and if your "metal side" doesn't let you feel this, I truly pity you.

So, cheers to you and hope you can find a forum where fit in.

Ah yes, of course you're right on that note.

Also I must say I agree with the comment about doing more non-metal fests. It would greatly help expand listenership amongst other kinds of fans. I don't see why The Gathering aren't being played on radio here in North America when bands like Lacuna and Evanescence are, when TG is along those lines in terms of 'heaviness' if you want to call it that. Not that I am comparing their music in general or anything like that.

Also I would like to say that stopping metalfests isn't necessary, however expansion to more mainstream festivals would definitely not hurt them get their music out... and I do wish them that much in the least.

Evanescence & Lacuna are supported by far bigger machines/labels than TG... I think CM probably put almost all its energy in promting LC when they saw it could take off...

Yeah but I mean... slowly but surely TG could gather the appropriate momentum to warrant such support from any source. But first they have to be seen in the right places. All I'm saying is they could get a lot more exposure if the mainstream in North America was what they were looking for.

But I really get the feeling that it's not like that at all to them. I believe they're content with their strongholds in Europe and South America...
