I sure do wish I could go see this show...
Unfortunetly though I'm far, far too broke at the moment to afford a flight from Chicago to New York, along with a hotel room for the night and a ticket for the show :(

If I can somehow scrounge up the money though this week, I might be able to afford a 5 hour road trip to catch that Grand Rapids show, possibly... just a shame that it isn't a headliner like NY, and I'm not a fan of Lacuna Coil these days...

So what happened at this show?

Teague said that opening band "Tub Ring" were complete idiots. Talking crap. playing longer than they were supposed to. Said The Gathering only played for an hour and the sound was bad.

Some fan of the opening band said on the Tub Ring myspace.

"awesome show oh and by the way f*ck the gathering and there fans, they can go suck on a terd or something."

Sounds like a messed up night.

The Gathering's performance was great, but the show was sadly marred by a number of things which were more than likely out of the band's control. All three openers were horrible and horribly out of place (why were the first two added anyway?). The sound sucked, although it did improve toward the end of TG's set. The setlist had Travel as the encore, but they didn't play it. I heard that they didn't do it because Anneke was going to pass out, as it was ridiculously hot in that place, but I have no idea whether or not there is any truth to that. She did come out onto the floor to meet fans and sign stuff shortly after the show, and seemed fine. I met her both before and after the show, and am still amazed by how well she remembered me from last year. My heart is always warmed by how sweet, thoughtful, and genuine she is in person, and that alone more than made the show worth attending. I got three pics with her, which I'll post in a bit, and I also spoke with Frank and Hans. I'm sure the sound will be better at the PA show, which I'll be at, but Hans said they'd probably only get a 40 minute set, which is quite disappointing.

Setlist:
Shortest Day
In Between
Liberty Bell
Probably Built in the 50s
Even the Spirits Are Afraid
Saturnine
Monsters
Alone
Eleanor
In Motion #1
Waking Hour
Strange Machines

Sounds like an "educated" opinion from a "brilliant" person.

At the headlining show the ban had some nice merch, but not much.

I bought a col T-shirt and "Home" on Vinyl.

It was a good time overall & a decent show by the TG, but the sound was pretty bad I have to say. Vocals were way low and the mix was poor.

Probably the worst sound of any of the many TG shows I've seen. It did improve towards the end of the set (last 3 songs sounded better) and the band did put on a nice performance despite the sound troubles.

It was nice to meet up with Overkill from here and met a couple others whose screen names I don't recall.

The opening bands were simply put...BAD. Especially the 2nd and 3rd bands were pure torture to endure. Definitely very unfitting and out of place with TG.

It was a pretty small club and the turnout was decent. Not too many there when the doors opened , but by the time TG went on the place looked full.

Not a whole lot merch for sale as mentioned, but I was definitely suprised to see the HOME vinyl as I didn't know it was even out yet. They also had the black Home shirt with the "boat" design from the webshop and another white shirt I think.

Looking forward to Friday night's show in Millvale.

I'll add to this by saying I too was surprised to see Home available on vinyl. So, I bought one ;) The guy said it was just released that day and that 1000 were made split between 500 for North America and 500 for Europe. I'm sure it will be available to order soon.

I met some cool people at the show. I talked to a photographer dude for quite a while (never got his name) who introduced me to Anthony. And there were other people too. It was cool to be there for conversations with the bandmembers right out there at the bar before the show. Rene mentioned something about a curfew, so that may be why they didn't play the last song on the setlist. They hit the stage later than planned and they were done by midnight.

The show was really great though! You can just tell they played their hearts out. And Anneke has such a great stage presence. I will agree with most of the comments made about what went wrong, however it did not put a damper on the evening. My buddy wore some earplugs and didn't really notice the substandard sound. I'm looking forward to the next show! I'm sure I'll see some of you there.. in Vancouver and Seattle!
