I never did get to understand how to pronounce "Anneke" properly. Maybe I will some day. In the meantime, even though I've met Silje during her Octavia Sperati days, I realise that I don't know how to pronounce her name either. So, what's the answer?

For for you english pseak it would be an-ne-ke with the e you pronounce like the article "a" in "a cup of coffe" ;)
and for silje it'd be seel-ye (with the latest e to pronounce the way of "a cup of coffee" ;))

So, you mean much the same as the English "Celia"?

I would pronounce it (with my french instinct) célia, but thinking the english way, I guess that's about it it, only the a should be replace by a "i" or "ee" sound (can someone provide some phonetics dictionary ;)

Go to website, select a voice of Norwegian (F/M) and then type your text, push the button "Say it!" :D

I thought it was a shorter vowel sound at the end, not ee but a short e or even an a, so something like seel-ya
Same as Trine is something like Tree-na
and Tone is something like Too-na
(other Octavia members)
Geoff: in fact when I asked Silje about her name she compared it to the English Celia.
The voice demo page doesn't load for me.

The thing is, that's relatively easy when you understand a bit of German ... but I'm lost when it comes to Scandinavian languages. And pretty lost when it comes to Dutch as well.

That's a clever website. Years ago, we had a Dutch friend called Leineke. I don't know where she is now, but at least I now know to say her name at last!

It's quite fascinating to put my full name (Geoffrey) into the box and see how a Dutch person might pronounce it.

Are you sure you haven't got it set to pronounce as an American/English person would rather than a Norwegian?
