This is getting to be a problem. Is anything being done to stop it?

I've blocked the IP of last night's spammer this morning.

Is he using different IPs every time?

Curiously, I haven't found the info, what version of phpbb are you running?

Unfortunately, if they use a variety of IPs many normal users will be blocked. Not much can be done... :(

I don't recall user validation being turned on (ie, receive an email press the link, then you can post)... The email I received just said welcome to the boards.

It might be a good thing to turn on user validation.

Maybe, but nowadays I think some mail hosts might block any e-mail from cyclingcolours due to their spam filters. For instance, I think that in some cases hotmail does not deliver any e-mail coming from proboards.com.

But generally it's a nice idea IMHO.

Come on it is up to the person who submit to set up his/her email account properly first if this is needed...

Well, sometimes it's not a user matter but the services provider's filter that blocks this.

I've administered a few phpbb and never had problems with addresses like hotmail. Sometimes there were problems with emails not being received, and that was mostly due to the php send mail function.

In any case, I had users send me an email and it's easy to activate them with the admin panel.

I've activated 'account activation', which means that new users who sign up to the forum, first have to confirm an e-mail before they can post here.

Let's see if this helps against spamming.

Let's hope so :P
It's so sad that we have to close and protect everything to keep enjoying this forum and internet in general.... What is the purpose for these people to do such things???
I never understood it and probably never will :-?

So if you delete posts in general,

This topic http://www.cyclingcolours.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=65&start=0 should be the first of all. 8000 posts less.

this topic deals with our music taste. Personally, I don't consider it as a spamming topic. It even exists in the Greek forum.
got many thanks and positive feedbacks posting in it lately. even if it's only one persone, I'm glad for it and go on (except if moderator will ask for it)

Moderator were maybe right... you are arrogant...
I think you were just unfair.
They are doing their best for us, TG fans, despite any situations.

Now, I found a spamming topic for you (from the greek room):
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4632

To be honest, this topic is simply a garbage to me and The Gathering official forum is not a house... but i won't ask for deleting it. because you guys have fun in it.

if so, Don't ask for cleaning other people's house if yourself, you are not able to clean yours.
you may lose all credibility

very sorry for these words. but sometimes, things need to get clearer.

Peace

:-? man,i am NOT a moderator. So i can't clean anything. In fact i asked to become one sometime, and i never got EVEN AN ANSWER.

Anyway,i never wanted to delete anything, noone of us wanted.

BUT if you have to delete things, then the playlist topics are the forst in line. I didn't say it isn't useful rarely, but don't tell me anyone will read this again anytime! There are just bands and songs in it. IF something must be deleted,THIS is it.

You are right about the topic-link from the greek room you posted. In fact you can see that the last posts are mine. You don't know greek, but if you knew, you would see that i am "asking" to delete it. I did the same for the now listening topic in the greek room, and some more of the semi-spam topics we have.

Again,
I never wanted anything deleted
If something must be deleted, these topics are the ones, they are useless all posts after 2 days, and they are a LOT.
I do the same on the greek room
I am NOT a moderator (although i wanted to be).

All this is getting absolutely fool and ridiculous... because this is only a forum. it's not the world center to me.

I'm very very glad to read your point of view Petros. I was absolutely wrong about these points you mentionned. Thanks a lot for clearing things and your honest words.

seriously, I dont want to be a moderator... wow, this is a too crappy job to me.

sorry again... you are so right I think I don't need to post over here anymore... even in the current playlist topic.

cheers.
