Baudelaire – His wings prevent him from walking is the project of Sabine de Lat, a traditional singer/songwriter who writes her songs alone, just accompanied by her guitar. However, in this project, which is a cooperation with Muzieklab Brabant, Sabine’s songs are inspired by the poems of the French poet Charles Baudelaire instead of her own life. In high school Sabine got acquainted with the tragic works of Charles Baudelaire and she intended to write a collection of songs based on his poems one day. When transforming her idea into a real project in 2007, she found that the original poems, in which the longing to a different, better life is always present, essentially include many concepts that are also very common in today’s pop music. Losing yourself in art, dreams and obsessive amorousness, but also thoughts about time, life and death are universal themes that, approximately 150 years after the publication of Baudelaire’s poems, are still to be found in present art. Sabine expresses her feelings about these poems within her songs, changing the original French texts into personal lyrics in English. Sabine arranges her compositions for a band of six professional musicians, including Jasper Vergeer (ex-Undeclinable), Marjolein Kooijman (The Gathering) and Michelle Courtens (former contester at the Eurovision Song Festival). During live shows her music will be supported by artwork of Merel Woudwijk.
