To each his own. Ik word alleen moe van al die mensen die vinden dat ik het ook een cool album moet vinden. En als je dat niet vindt is dat heiligschennis en ben je geen muziekliefhebber etc etc.

Maar zoals ik al zei: zolang het me niet direct gevraagd wordt houd ik me mond. Op internetfora zijn er altijd wel, als Pietje Band X noemt (noemen, nog niet eens zeggen dat ze geweldig zijn of iets dergelijks), een paar het nodig vinden daaraan toe te voegen: BAND X SUCKS! Jaja, lekker belangrijk dat jij dat vindt... constructief ook.

Begrijp U wel? :)

Nou, dat zou dus ook een 'dustgatherer' eerste klas worden.

Tuurlijk speelt je eigen smaak wel mee! Sterker nog, da's het enige wat echt telt. De rest is leuk om nieuwe dingen te leren kennen en ik heb heus wel 'klassiekers' van de bieb geleend omdat het klassiekers zijn, maar die vond ik lang niet altijd goed en ik ga me echt niet laten voorschrijven door de 'cultuur' wat ik moet hebben.

Ik ga het anders formuleren: Persoonlijke Klassiekers, Check ze 'ns! :)

Red kan je ook vervangen door om 't even welke live-plaat met Starless... :)

Oxiplegatz is science fiction metal, met geweldige zang van Sarah Svensson, om verliefd op te worden, zo'n stem. De muziek is wat low-budget zolderkamer werk van een ex-At The Gates gitarist (Alf Svensson, geen familie). Ondanks drumcomputer en een wat muf geluid heeft het iets heel bijzonders.

Disco Volante is nogal afwisselend, van free-jazz naar samba, tango gemixed met 20ste eeuwse compositie en dan naar brute death metal verweven met elektro-akoestische noise. Een groeiplaat, afhankelijk van wat je gewend bent hoe snel ie groeit. Toen ie uitkwam moest ik er iig erg aan wennen, hij leek totaal niet op de voorgaande plaat.

Bucketheadland is ook een groeiplaat, zeker toen ie uitkwam, alweer ruim 10 jaar geleden, was ik er nog niet helemaal klaar voor al was er genoeg om uit te nodigen tot veel draaien. Je moet het zien als een dagje pretpark, gestructureerd als van die 'rides', in zo'n bakje van de ene ruimte naar de andere gaat. Disneyland stylo. Dus fragmentarisch, elke ruimte heeft z'n eigen sfeer en muziek. Metal, funk en ambient met veel samples uit Johnny Sokko & Flying Robot, Willie Wonka en nog het één en ander. Genieten op het moment, het komt waarschijnlijk niet meer terug.

Book Of Horizons heb ik hier al besproken. Binnenkort een uitgebreid interview met Trey Spruance. Beste cd van 2004, nu al.

Hoewel ik al een tijdje in de black metal gedoken ben heb ik nog niet echt de essentiele albums ontdekt volgens mij. Er is er wel 1 onderweg (Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk). Wel denk ik dat Borknagar (debuut) vrij essentieel is...

als we zo gaan beginnen, ik ben een tijdje in de postrock gedoken :P

het meest essentiele album uit dit genre is Spiderland van Slint. Deze plaat uit 1991 (of was 't nou 1992) is een inspiratiebron geweest voor vele postrock acts (Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai, Vehicle). Na twee albums gaf deze band er de brui aan en gingen verder als artiesten in latere bands als Gastr del Sol (met creatieve indie duizendpoot en Sonic Youth lid Jim 'O Rourk) en Tortoise.

Anthems zeker (hoewel Nightside truier is, of de EP, die is allertruist). En Transsylvanian Hunger (Darkthrone), Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (Burzum), De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (MayheM), Vikingligr Veldi (Enslaved), Aspera Hiems Symphonia (Arcturus) en natuurlijk de Trilogie (Bergtatt, Kveldssanger og Nattens Madrigal) van Ulver.

Dit zijn de echt 'grim' en 'necro' klassiekers natuurlijk. Bedoel, de tweede Arcturus is ook dope, maar minder 'frostbitten' en trui. Image

Ik krijg ineens zin in de winter. :)

Het grootste deel van die albums staat idd op de 'wish list', hoewel ik het meest te spreken ben over de wat symphonischere en experimentele BM wil ik de belangrijkste uit de truie en ondergeproduceerde categorie (Mayhem, Burzum) ook wel hebben...

'Koffietafel black metal' van Solefald en Borknagar vind ik ook leuk hoor.

Enslaved's laatste 3 zijn ook geweldig (ouder werk vind ik ook tof, maar later werk is experimenteler), Dødheimsgard's 666 International is een must-have, Primordial is tof, Thorns (die duo met Emperor, maar zeker ook de 'gewone'), Ved Buens Ende... en van de nieuwe garde is Anaal Nathrakh wel tof (bruut).
