Solrenning by Anne Vada/Aki Fukakusa is the best CD that I had never heard until one day I happened to buy it in 1999.
That's a funny coincidence, because I also bought my copy in 1999.

The Norwegian singer Rita Eriksen has also recorded a great version of this song, which is to be found on the album "Tideland", which she recorded together with the Irish singer Dolores Keane.

The Norwegian folk rock band Gåte also recorded a version of this song and I think it was their first big hit in Norway. Here's the promo-video of their version (which sounds very different from Anne Vada's version):

The title is actually "Lite bane", which means "little child".

Does anyone speak Norwegian on this forum that help me know what these songs are meaning in English?
While I do understand some Norwegian, I'd say these lyrics - which are written in Nynorsk (or dialects related to it) - are quite difficult to translate, well, at least parts of them, and I simply don't have the time to do so. If the Gåte-forum still existed, I could have pointed you at least to the translation of "Bendik & Årolilja", but after the band split up 5 years ago (btw, there will be four - allegedly - final concerts in Norway this summer), their forum was also closed a bit later.
Edit: I've just noticed that the first comment below the videoclip I've linked above gives a summary in English of what the lyrics of "Bendik & Årolilja" are about. However, I should mention that the lyrics of Gåte's version are different from Anne Vada's except of the first verse and the chorus. The reason is that there are often many different versions of these medieval ballads. If you check this directory of Norwegian ballads
http://www.dokpro.uio.no/ballader/liste ... itler.htmlyou will e.g. notice that it contains 48 (!) versions of "Bendik & Årolilja". In addition to this, the original ballads are usually much longer than the songs being recorded on the albums, which are just excerpts. E.g. the second version of "Bendik & Årolilja" you find in this directory contains 49 verses.
